Meet Linda, NuVal’s Latest Mom of the Month!
Nutrition Professional from Guilford, CT Uses NuVal Scores for Health
Quincy, MA – August 7, 2012– Linda Bergonzi-King knows about nutrition. In addition to working in the public health field, she has a Masters degree in Public Health (MPH). Living in Guilford, CT with her husband and two children, Linda said she’s a health-conscious consumer, always looking for products or ideas that promote healthy eating in an accessible and helpful way.
Recently, she found such guidance in the NuVal Nutritional Scoring System at her local Big Y supermarket. She loved the simple, 1-100 scale that highlights a food’s overall nutrition.
“It made me feel good that Big Y cared enough about the health of its customers to use such a useful tool,” she said. “I love using the NuVal System at my Big Y to know which foods are healthier to buy for my boys. It is so important to me to give them a balanced diet and NuVal helps me do this! I’ve been telling all my friends about NuVal.”
Linda said she likes using NuVal not only to learn about what foods are more nutritious for her and her family, but to get confirmation that she’s already making good decisions.
“I like to see high scores next to vegetables because it reinforces the good choices I’m making there,” she said. She also said that she likes to use the system to compare items among unhealthier items such as margarine, because “at least I can use NuVal to know that I’m getting a little higher score among those items,” she said.
Linda also loves getting her children, ages 6 and 7, involved in the hunt for higher scores.
“My boys know that the higher the score, the better it is for them,” she said. “It gives them a good start in knowing what foods are more nutritional. My kids love broccoli and they like to see the 100 next to the price. (NuVal) is an easy, fun way to show kids to look for more nutritious foods.”
Linda’s favorite thing about NuVal? “I think it’s easy to understand,” she said. “I like that it’s on a scale of 1 to 100 and the higher the score the better (the nutrition). NuVal is easy enough to use that I can incorporate it easily into my life without any outside help.”
Since incorporating NuVal scores into her visits to Big Y, Linda has noticed quite a few changes. She’s noticed that her triglyceride levels have come down almost 100 points, and she has lost weight.
“For most of my adult life I’ve been trying to lose weight,” she said. “I don’t have the time with two kids and a job to even sign up with Weight Watchers, so I’ve always done it on my own. So, NuVal has been a good buddy to have along the way, and to refer to when I’m shopping.”
